I’ve been making strides in a green lifestyle, solar energy, recycling, teaching my daughter about preserving the planet and it’s resources and I’ve really only just begun!
One of the areas that I recently targeted was junk mail and from what my postal lady told me yesterday, I can claim SUCCESS!
I was on my way out and saw her truck parked next to the boxes and pulled along side, asked for my mail and she said “Oh yours is easy, you’re the only one that doesn’t get any junk mail!”
About 3 months ago I looked for a way to rid my mailbox of junk that gets tossed every day and found a couple of websites that I can now confirm will live up to the task of stopping junk mail.
How: The Privacy Rights Clearing House this site at first glance is a bit confusing but start at the top and work your way down, it tells you exactly what you have to do to get off these mailing lists and best of all it’s free! You should not have to pay one dime to do this, which leads me to another site 41Pounds.org which at first glance will do what you want until you realize you have to pay about 8 bucks a year for them to do something you can do for yourself, for FREE!
Finally OPT-OUT! Check the websites for many of the services you use today, banks, credit cards, billing centers and see if they offer a paperless option, many actually give you a discount on your bill for them not sending you a paper invoice each month, my power company does this and every little bit helps.
This will take a couple of months before you notice the difference but in the end you’ll start to see that your mailbox will only contain mail and not junk-mail.
Remember, Think Locally and Act Globally!
