Cross Country Skiing (XC Skiing)

dscn0150Some of you know that this year I took up XC Skiing and have really fallen in love with it, as well some have thought it’s nothing more than simple skiing or snowboarding, I can say that it’s nothing at all like sitting in a chair lift, taking a 10 minute ride up a mountain and coming down without killing yourself.

XC is a workout, a major workout that involves using every part of your body and unlike downhill, XC is typically on trails (some groomed, some not) that in many cases are laid out in 5km and 10km runs that tend to be mostly uphill!

I spent another day at the Flagstaff Nordic Center today and the groomed trails were basically crap and ice, so I did what cross country is all about, I took off and made my own trails, which was the best. I think that at the end of the day I shed 5 pounds of water weight and all my clothes were totally soaked!

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock

To understand you have to either be a big fan of Big Bang Theory or understand the the game needed some expansion, I’m for both! This clip should explain it all.

Read it out loud, it also rhymes.

Scissors cut paper.
Paper covers rock.
Rock crushes lizard.
Lizard poisons Spock.
Spock smashes scissors.
Scissors decapitate lizard.
Lizard eats paper.
Paper disproves Spock.
Spock vaporizes rock.
Rock crushes scissors.

Side Note: Of course, what I don’t understand about their problem in the last scene is why someone didn’t choose lizard. After all, if everyone else is putting up Spock, then the best choices are Lizard (which poisons Spock) or Paper (which disproves Spock), and Lizard also beats Paper (by eating it). Is loyalty to your favorite Vulcan really more important than winning?

Radio Days

I’ve been trying to find some time to convert some of my old radio air checks over to MP3 and today I was able to convert and skim 2 shows, in fact they are the only tapes that I could find from my days on Big106 Miami. I will get the WAXY 106 air checks online as I have time, I have quite a few of those. If I’m really lucky I need to see if I can make friends with someone from one of the local FM’s here in Phoenix and ask him to dub off an old Power 96 reel that I have, that will be interesting to listen to, let’s see that would be around 1985′ish.
